With technology in my class I can motivate more my students to study my subject, it is a good medium to establish relationships between what we study in class and what my students like to do in real life; using technology in my class I allow my students to express themselves in different ways, they have the chance to explore the subject from a different point of view, class observations are more open, theories are seen from different points of view, data can be organized according to their needs, and the analyzes of information is more personal.
In my country, I believe that there is no connection between technology and education, in my opinion teachers are not prepared enough to use this important educational tool, if teachers do not receive the necessary education about technology, of course in the classroom we will not find that fusion.
In Colombia, “The resources destined to education represent 5.1% of the GDP (Fundación Corona, 2006), 0.7 percentage points more than the Latin American average which is 4.4%
(UNESCO Institute for Statistics, 2007)”. “The main financial source of the educational
service is the national income which by constitutional disposition, is distributed among
departments and municipalities. In addition, the departments and municipalities generate
their own revenues to contribute to the educational sector” (Sarmiento, Tovar & Alam,
2001).
I consider that the government investment in education for schools and universities in my country is not enough, in deep is not the problem is not the quantity of money, perhaps it is the way that money is used ; we need to pay more to attention to prepare teachers in this fundamental aspect of education, in addition, it is not just to teach how to do it; we need to have in what to do it, which is another factor to take into account, most schools do not have the necessary equipment to establish that symbiosis, and this is something that determined the real use of technology in class; Some teachers have the appropriate preparation to develop technology in class, but there are not the necessary resources taking into account the integration of technology in the context of rural and low-socioeconomic areas.
On the other hand “old teachers” do not believe in technology, they do not feel comfortable using what they do not know, they want to continue teaching using the marker and the board, even if they have the techno- tools they do not want to learn how to use it, this could be a slow process, it means extra work, more preparation, and they need to face a new responsibility in education, in which students are experts, students grew with the technology and they are more effective using it, students know more of technology than some teachers do.
Carl Sagan said:
“We live in a society exquisitely dependent on science and technology, in which hardly anyone knows anything about science and technology.”
As parents we believe that our children have more opportunities to be more successful I their studies, if they have the opportunity to use technology in their classes, teachers have the responsibility to be more prepared to enhance our future challenge: technology in class; we need to be more open mind to take technology in our lives, we should understand the importance of technology in education, in any way this is something that affect our daily life, our family our work and our social life.
